ZukGT
Hello All, Just like a few pointers to steer me in the right direction. I'm new to the HPDE scene. I have a 91 Swift GT that I'm prepping for track time. My main goal is too have fun and improve my driving skills, I'll doubt I'll compete on a professional level. I have done a speedtrialsusa (I was in the beginners run group) event at California speedway and had an ok time but by the end of the day I felt unsafe on the track because of other drivers passing me on corners when they told us not too. Are the HPDE events more policed/regulated? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Philip
notpettersolberg
In HPDE groups 1 and 2, they're very strict about allowing passing in the straights only. If someone passes you in the corner and makes you feel uneasy, you can just mention it at the download session afterwards and the person who did it will face the consequences. JKnight
If someone passes you in the corner and makes you feel uneasy, you can just mention it at the download session afterwards and the person who did it will face the consequences I'll second that advice, and add that if someone is passing you in the corners in anything but group 4 or a race group, it needs to be brought up. If it's in group 1 or 2, the person may not even know that they are pssing inappropriately, although they should. Communication really is the key in open tracking, and this extends to off the track as well as on. Not to jump on a soapbox here, but when someone pulls a bonehead maneauver near me, it generally results in my focus being pulled from mydriving, making me less safe on track, and takes away from my enjoyment of tracking my car. Sure, mistakes happen, but if it is pattern behavior it needs to be nipped in the bud Jason
ZukGT
Yes it made me extremely nervous when I looked over my right shoulder and their was a guy in a bimmer convertible at my door trying to pass me on a corner. This was in the beginner run group. I guess I should have gone to the event manager and told him what happened. And this was my first track event. Thanks for the comments.
