MHISSTC
This one goes back to an exchange much earlier in the year where it was stated that it was implied in the rules that any aftermarket headers were allowed to be coated while the OEM manifolds and headers were not and that header wrap was also not allowed on the headers and the reasons why. The intent of our submission is to allow any currently legal OEM or aftermarket header or exhaust manifold to be coated by any substance that actually bonds to the surface of the unit. This includes materials such as paint and ceramic coatings, but specifically excludes header wrap. We feel header and manifold coatings act to extend the life of the manifolds and headers while also decreasing underhood temperatures. Lower underhood temperature helps increase the life of the plastic and electrical bits under the hood leading to less cost in the long run. Header wrap was excluded as it tends to collect substances such as engine oil that can lead to a fire hazard and hot/cool spots that can lead to thermal cracking...all things that could potentially increase maintenance and cost.
