2015 Rules changes open call

Ah, my favorite time of the year is once again upon us. Ok, its not my favorite time of the year, but it is time to discuss changes for the CMC rules. As is our usual, I’m going to target the end of November for having the 2016 rules published. Our goal is to only make changes that clarify intent unless the change reduces cost, improves safety, or enables closer competition (closer does not mean lower lap times by the way!).

Your role as a CMC competitor is twofold: first, submit Rules Change Requests (RCR) for things you believe make sense and second, to discuss your RCRs and those others submit with your fellow racers and, most importantly, with your Regional Director.

Feel free to create a thread in the Rules section of the forum for your RCR, but please keep these threads limited to one specific topic to make it easier for everyone to follow along. Keep these discussions civil and remember that its perfectly ok for others to have a different and even conflicting opinion to your own.

To submit an RCR for the CMC Directors for consideration, please submit it to your regional director via email with a cc to me using the format below. Your regional director is your representative at the discussions, and the two of you discussing your suggestion first will help that greatly.

I will accept complete RCRs until Thursday October 1. I will post RCRs as they come in so everyone can see what they are.

For those that are new or unfamiliar, the Directors discuss and vote on the RCRs. Usually RCRs are either overwhelmingly supported or overwhelmingly not supported, but if it is a tie I’m the tie breaker and retain the right to veto. When we’re done, we submit the whole thing to NASA HQ for their review, suggestions, and final approval.

I encourage you to do the appropriate due diligence. Provide real evidence and details. Read old RCRs, read the director’s cut threads explaining what RCRs were rejected and why. If it’s the same RCR and nothing has changed, its logical to expect the decision to remain unchanged.

RULE CHANGE REQUESTS (RCR) MUST BE SUBMITTED IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT TO BE CONSIDERED (no a post online isn’t enough):

---1) Name / Region / Car # / Contact Info (email or phone, etc)

---2) Rule reference # (ex.- Rule 3.2)

---3) Recommended Revised Wording (saying “make rule 5.4 clearer†isn’t enough! How would you word it?)

---4) Reasoning for change MUST include at least 1 of the following:

---------->a) Will decrease series cost because…

---------->b) Will increase driver safety because…

---------->c) Will promote series growth because...

---------->d) Will improve competition because…

---------->e) Will provide more clarity because...

HINT – Requests which score points in all categories will have better chances of being accepted than those which score points in 1 category (or worse yet, go against the reasonings above.)

I’m available just about any time if you want to discuss something over the phone or email.

I already e-mailed these to Al but I wanted to get them up here for discussion if needed.

---1) Tyler Gardner / TX / #013 / 817-914-2266

---2) 7.11.10 (new)

---3) Ford 5.0 cars may use aftermarket internally balanced and forged crankshafts

---4)

---------->a) 4 5.0 catastrophic crankshaft failures in the past few years

---------->b) Will promote series growth because of reliable engines.

---------->c) Rule change is only for durability and there is no performance gain

---------->d) When mine broke the cars behind me lost control, oil and sharp metal on the track is a serious safety issue that could cause loss of equipment or life.

Examples:

Tyler Gardner CMC 013 MSR-H 2015

Michael Mosty CMC 11 2014 and 2011

Wade Zimmer CMC 2015

---1) Tyler Gardner / TX / #013 / 817-914-2266

---2) 7.32.8.3

---3) Rotors shall be cast iron only and may be vented. No cross drilling is allowed.

---4)

---------->a) Will decrease series cost because slotted rotors are much easier to find.

---------->b) Will promote series growth because slotted rotors are much easier to obtain.

---------->c) Slotted rotors provide no apparent competitive advantage and we could share rings with AI in a bind.

Here is an example for the fact that the plain rotors are difficult to find, they are special order.

http://www.stoptech.com/products/big-brake-kits/replacement-parts/bbk-repl-aero-rotors

Stoptech only lists slotted and drilled rotors on their website.

We could also potentially use other manufactures but none of them make them plain, for example, racing brake.

We have been having issues with stoptech rotors wallerin out, we would like to try other manufactures but the rules make this extremely difficult.

A simple google search for "332x32mm plain rotor rings" returns nothing usable.

Additionally we could use our hawk contingency to purchase hawk rotors but they are only avail in slotted.

Another benefit to allowing slotted rotors is the ability to share with AI, it could mean the difference between someone going home vs racing that weekend.

Could you delete your post here and put them up as independent topics under 2015 RCR #4 and 2015 RCR #5 so at we may discuss each one individually?
