We've been following your build, and are very appreciative of you picking Cherokee for your first event. Its a great event.

Have you lined up a co-driver? If not, I'm sure we can find someone with a few events under his or her belt.

If you aren't already clued in to http://www.specialstage.com and http://www.rallyclassified.com, they are great sources for both equipment and advice.

Regards,

Thanks!

No co-driver yet. Certainly need someone with experience to show me the ropes. I think I'm pretty good with "adrenaline control" so if anything, the co-driver will get bored. Again, the goal just being to finish and have something to build upon for next time.

does that weld-in cage look legal? The various rulesets that I've been looking at are a little confusing. We essentially made a pretty beefy IT legal cage that still allows for a majority of the door panel to remain and have both a sill bar and an X. It uses a halo on the roof, but there aren't any gussets currently.

The cage config looks right; the lack of gussets was noted. I had one question; put it in a PM to you.

If you need a co, you can tap me or my son. Approx 100 and 20 events respectively......

Looking good!

I'll get gussets added...shouldn't be a big deal.

Remember if you're doing plate-type gussets that the plate should be tangent to the tubing, not centered on the tube, so that they don't create a stress riser. Taco-style gussets are probably your best bet.

If the cage is being build in compliance to the NASA Rally Sport

Regulations, it would be highly advisable to check those Regulations

at http://www.nasarallysport.com go to Regulations, Section 3.0 Technical

Regulations, Part 3.6.2.1 Rollover Protection and the technical drawings

in Appendix B.

In particular, check the tube diameters, wall thickness,

tube material and required roll cage members. The tubing must be

either CDS (Cold Drawn Seamless) or DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel).

The material must be mild steel - no chromemoly allowed. (All this

would be different story if you were prepared to apply for a roll cage

homologation certificate to ACCUS/FIA, which is not a practical option

for you.)

Note that our rules are FIA-like rules. Before you start thinking about

SCCA-style plate gussets, consider the following:

1. Plate gussets are to be discouraged as they have a sharp edge and

are a potential source of injury. The gussets must be tubular type

specified in Drawings No. 253-16 or 253-16A.

2. Gussets constitute optional reinforcements that are allowed. The only

time gussets are required is for reinforcing mandatory diagonal

members specified in Section 3.6.2.2.1.3 and shown in the Drawing

No. 253-4.

I've just ordered a TerraTrip and a Terraphone, as well as a first aid kit...we're down our last few prep items!

Jason Grahn has agreed to be our co-driver for this event!

You know, with that NASA membership form you sent in you'll get a FREE subscription of Grass Roots Motorsports...

Did you remember to get the required shlozmonoodle pursuant to the 2006 regs? I didn't see that it was on the list on the website. You know that you can't event start without one, don't you?

Wilson

PS: Looking forward to seeing you all in Tennessee.

Yes, no moonshine is provided, so you do have to bring your own XXX.

Actually, you're both correct on your interpretations of XXX.

Just that up 'thar', moonshine first, the porno follows.

(Important to remember if during a 'off' you get offered some 'shine by any local good ole boys)

This is being worked on. I was asked about it at Rally Tennessee, and reminded at Sandblast, so you never know what might surface. Personally I am more partial to Makers Mark (wouldn't be a rally without it).
