While cages are not required in HPDE/TT, should I have a cage that does not meet NASA regulations (Tube Type CDW vs CDS), would this disqualify me from running? I recall many years ago (at least 10) the philosophy in NASA (norcal) was that IF you CHOSE to have the safety item (even if the item wasn’t required), it must meet safety requirements set out by NASA or you couldn’t run. Therefore, you would prefer not to have any safety item vs a non-compliant safety item. In this case, I would prefer to have some protection even if not compliant, to no protection at all.
