Members Chad M. Posted December 7, 2019 Members Posted December 7, 2019 Rules require a closed wheel car, but another rule states: "8) Rolled or flared fenders (includes add-on flares--only to the extent necessary to cover the tire as viewed from above—not viewed from the front or rear)" So is the interpretation that tires can not stick out beyond the wheel openings unless there is a flare above it? Members Chad M. Posted December 7, 2019 Author Members Posted December 7, 2019 I realize that is for the BTM Aero mod section. So the way the rules read it as no restrictions on whether the tire is contained or not, unless we're interpreting this as not allowed: "Any four-wheel, fendered/closed-wheel, internal combustion engine vehicle that passes NASA safety technical inspection can be used to compete in Super Touring provided it is in compliance with the modification limitations in section 6 of these rules. No, but if someone decided to have a tire sticking way outside of the body of the car, the race director or safety tech inspectors could potentially see it as a hazard, and not let it on track. With that being said, I've seen plenty of vehicles permitted to drive with tires sticking out past the body. And, in ST4 and below, while fender flares are permitted to cover the top of a tire, wide body fender kits are not permitted to replace the BTM/OEM fenders. So, slightly oversized tires will stick out from the body in the front and the rear. Quote
