JonnyCocktail Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Right now I believe it is just Chas and I. I was hoping to see Norm, Paluch, Dennis and Michael, but nothing yet. Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I think Norm was going to be there. I know he was interested. I will be there, but instructing only. I let my PCA license expire and needed a medical. For NASA my medical was good for 5 years, but only 2 in PCA. So I let it laps not wanting to run GT4 anymore. Of course now there is class for us in PCA, but I don't have a currnet license, would need a medical AND commited my $$$ to the NASA Cal Speedway the very next weekend. Unfortunalty I simple don't have the money to run back to back weekend especially when one is a travel weekend. Too bad as it would have been fun time. I do plan to instruct and would like to get some group photos and try do an article for at least Going Places about the first run of the class. This is a huge step for 944 spec racing and it deserves promo. Quote
AZCpeJason Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 In the Same Boat here.. My NASA Medical is fine .. but need a PCA one.. also not looking to incure that much expense, I/We will be there helping at the event with Grid/Control/Tech/Corner Workers and what not .. so hopefully plan on getting some hot laps on the new motor(Well Lower end and Top End) in the 944. To bad wish PCA made it easier for the lic. process. would have liked to see a better 944 showing.. Jason Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 To bad wish PCA made it easier for the lic. process. would have liked to see a better 944 showing.. Jason Really the license process is not that hard for PCA. The POC process is the one that sucks and seems hardly worth it. Heck even with a comp license you still need to go through a "school" to get a license. They only have those twice a year. That is why I won't bother with the POC license. I would have kept PCA if I had known about the 944 spec class back in December. At that time I was tired of running GT4S and did not feel PCA was "doing anything" for the low budget racer. So I figured why bother spending the time and money to run one PCA event per year. So instead I put my resources torward NASA Az and an attempt to make all those events. Figured if I was carefull I could afford to run a full points season in one org if I got everything lined up and stuck to that org. That left PCA on the outside. I still want to support the club so it will be as an instructor only. As for next year... I will need a new medical for NASA anyway so... Maybe I will be back in PCA? Quote
Tim Comeau Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Hey guys. I was under the same impression as you were regarding the PCA medical form. I talked to Susan Shire today, she's the person who does all the licensing stuff for PCA Club Racing, and she told me your NASA medical would cross over if it captured all the same data. She said she wants to make things easy for drivers. How about that? I wasn't aware of this change in PCA "attitude", but it's very welcome and makes total sense. I'm still working on PIR. Looks like I'll be making it. It's just a question of driving or towing.... Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 The problem is my NASA medical is 4 years old and for us young guys they allow 5 years between check ups. PCA requires 2 years between check ups. I can't use my NASA medical (which I did for PCA anyway) as it is too old. Next year since I need a medical for NASA anyway I can just have one physical done for both orgs. So it is certainly not impossible to do. In December I chose not to have a medical done since figure PCA would be just one event without a good class. Now things are differenet, but since I have committed to Cal Speedway with NASA I just can't afford both. For me the NASA event is more important. I am running for the Az 944 spec championship this year and the Cal Speedway event is a Az points race, I will be missing the May Az event since my first child is due that same weekend. With points drop system I can only stand to miss one weekend, so the March Cal Speedway is very important. Plus I should be able to make at least 3 of 4 regional crossover events. The summer BW or Willow is up in the air. So that is all the more reason to run the NASA stuff. So while missing out on the first PCA 944 spec race is tough I think it will be the best for me given my goals for the year. For those of you that don't remember I lost out on being the 2003 Az champion not because of my race finishes. I beat every 944 spec car in the 20 something races I ran that year except for 1. Unfortunaly my main competitior came in 2nd in nearly all the Az points races and won the 4 races I missed doing other things. Thus I missed out on the championship and still almost ran out of funds as I did Az NASA races,Az ASRA Races, PCA races and 2 so cal events. So rather than let that happen again I have chosen to make all the points races I can for the Az championship. I figure If I can direct my race budget to those points races only I have real chance at the championship this year. I still want to run one event per month in the cool season to get sharp, but since we have not had racing since December I have been doing autocross in Jaunary and a PCA DE in Feb. Not ideal, but low cost enough to tide me over for March At Cal speedway, April at Firebired, May = baby. Summer Time? Maybe the W/S crossover? Oct, Nov & Dec all NASA events with whatever PCA Autocross and DE days I can squeeze in. As of last year the plans have been approved by my sponsor (My wife ) This March event was in the air a bit, finally got firmed up and the summer So-Cal all depends on baby and funds. We shall see Nationals are out for me as doing that event leaves me no budget to do any other races. Hey the SCCA events here in Az are also really tempting, but have not been a part of this years plans for me. Mostly since I can't run a full SCCA season and don't want to skip a NASA points race for what is a non-points event for me. Damn I hate racing on a budget.... Quote
Tim Comeau Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 But, if you present an un -expired medical, PCA should give you a medical which should be good for another 2 years, right? Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I don't know, but it is too late now. Quote
Tim Comeau Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Looks like : Ariano Wirken Comeau Hamden so far? Quote
