So is anyone going to out there and make some new friends with our East Coast brothers?? I know we have our differences in our series but shoot we both drive Porsche's bastard stepchildren!!! That alone should be worth a beer or 2. Maybe we can start a fund to support some guys going! I'll throw in the first $100.

And all those 944 Spec cars coming to the National are invited to join their Cup step-bastards at the 944 Cup Hospitality Tent for food, drink, shelter, and the telling of lies.

Standing starts sound like fun!

If I wasn't completely broke, I'd pitch in...

If we can just get enough sponsorship to have our cars shipped out and back, I would pay the rest of my way!!!

Yeah that's what I'm thinking Norm. Those who go will have to pay some. I don't think we can get a full free ride but maybe we can get enough $$ together to send a few cars and help with the cost. That's a long tow!!!

Posted

Based on previous experience, I could make the tow in 3 long days. 3 out, 3 back is already a committment of 6 days. So getting there, being there for the week, and getting back is going to take the better part of 2 weeks!

You'd pretty much have to get someone to tow any cars going out to the Nationals. Or make a racing vacation out of it?

hey, yeah a vacation. *the sign on the offcie door reads "gone racing... be back _____"

I know it would be very unlikely to get a free ride out, if we can get an idea of how many cars would go out, I can start shopping for the best deal on a car hauler and we can split the cost.

Does anybody know someone with a rig?

Who would go if the cost for transporting was under a $1,000 per car? I am guessing with approx. 6 cars, that should be very likely at the most.

I will start shopping around now for idea's.

I'll dig, too.

I'd sure like for some 944 spec cars to be there at the first ever event.

From Orange County it's about 2300 mi each way. Thats about 35 hours of driving so it's about a 5 day tow (based on driver doing an 8 hour day) plus we'd have food and lodging. (Approx $150/day times 14 = $2100) then add diesel and rig cost I doubt we can get a whole rig for $6k. If a rig got 10 mpg and gas at 2.80/gal it would be about $1300. Plus pay at $200/day $2800 So we're at $6200 I'm sure the rig owner would also charge for ins, rig use. The link DD put in charged $1600 for early prepay.

It is for sure going to be an expensive race weekend!!

Two years ago we put together ten 944 drivers and rented a hauler and driver to take us from Washington, DC to Rennsport Reunion II at Daytona, and got a hellava deal. Having cars in one place to be picked up and dropped made a big difference in the price.

Here is the number of a private hauler I used 3 years ago to have a 944 shipped to me here from Huntington Beach: 909-208-6123 (Jason). May want to give him a call. Not sure if he is still hauling.

Your right Eric, I sounds like there ain't no cheap way. I spoke with one guy in CA that buys and sales cars on E-Bay and ships cars cross country, he's guessing around 700 to $800 each way and getting a driver to hang out for a few days in Ohio can be a real challenge. David, it sounds like 7's racing is the best deal. I tried calling Jason at the number you gave and it doesn't sound like a working number. That would put us up to about $2500 to $3,000 for the trip. A little to rich for my blood. I will keep calling around and maybe somebody will haul us for less.

Maybe NASA will help out since the Nat'l race is no where close to the middle of the nation. And maybe gas will drop to a dollar by then too!

Thanks for trying to make this happen, I know I'm not the only one really wanting to go!

How about if we all meet at a neutral track, like Miller Motorsports and call it the National Championships and spend the remaining $1000 each on something important....like strippers....

Posted

The new 944 spec Southwest Championship will morph into the 944 Club Southwest Championship to include the SCCA 944's, then that will morph into a West Coast title chase, which will include the NorCal and Pacific Northwest 944 drivers.

After that........TV, baby!

Thanks Dave, I responded to that e-mail

At least a few should go and have a few beers with them.

Eric, the beer for the entire weekend is compliments of the East Coast crew, and that comes with barbeque lunch each day, for any and all 944 Spec drivers and crew who make it to the National. With the West Coast 944's, this would be the largest collection of 944 (and other front engined bro's) racers at one event in the country.

NASA has been providing a lot of National sponsorship prize money for the other series. With 944 Spec being the official 944 NASA series, seems reasonable NASA could provide some sponsor assistance to help pay the way for transport for some 944 spec cars? May be worth a try.

What EXACTLY would we have to do to get our cars competitive in 944 cup??
