How involved is NASA with supporting/protecting tracks?

I ask this because we all know how valuable tracks are to this organization. I just recently moved out to the Colorado and am doing what I can to help Dave and Revkah Balingit get the Rocky Mountain chapter established. As some of you know, we've had 3 track closures in as many months late last year. We're down to 2 road courses in Colorado now, and one of those is a converted airport runway.

I was wondering if NASA has ever thought about putting together a group that focused on helping existing tracks stay open and supporting new track plans. This group would focus on issues that threaten existing tracks and also get involved with local groups to help support new track openings. Almost like how SEMA supports the aftermarket by getting information out about new laws that could affect vehicle modifications.

The reason I bring this up is because we are obviously heavily dependant on race tracks. The more that close, the tougher it is on NASA and NASA members. There is an effort going on here in Colorado to build a new track to replace one of the track closures. Being the new group in town doesn't give us a whole lot of say in the plans, but I would think that the top NASA leadership would want to get involved somehow. I know that Dave is trying, but I'm hoping the NASA leadership is finding ways to give the regional directors more support for this kind of thing.

Another issue I wanted to bring up - new development threatening race tracks. A local SCCA member brought up an interesting point: golf courses. He lived right on a golf course and complained about broken windows. The local laws gave preference to the golf course because it was there first. We need to fight for the same thing for race tracks. If homes are built near a track, and the track was there first, there should be laws protecting the track. If they can do it for golf courses, we can do it for race tracks. People who move near a track should expect a few inconveniences of living near a track. I think NASA should be involved in helping push this initiative and getting the members involved.

Now I'm not saying I have much experience with this sort of thing, but I'm willing to help do the work needed to help out. I'm sure other members are too. How can we get this organized?

... this would be a question to put in front of the leaders of this organization. I would email them.

Since the track/race season has gotten fully underway, I'd have to believe that most are busy pursuing track time.
