lemonsracer
I was recommended to post this hear after emailing a NASA official. I was wondering if anyone in ST is running brake fans and if that was even legal? I know the rulebook says brake ducts from the front bumper to the calipers are fine, but there is not nothing in the rulebook about powered brake fans. My car has 3" ducts that bolt right to the back of the calipers and I would love to put fans on those ducts rather than running hose to the front bumper bc that is going to be very tight on my car. I also run stock cars with local Nascar and we use 3" diameter fans in our brake ducts that have a speed controller knob we mount to the dash. I would love to just mount the fans directly to my ducts and put the controller on the dash as that would move any ambient air across my rotors, but it seems there is confusion if this is legal or not. Does anyone have any input?
National Staff Brett B. Posted March 30 National Staff Share Posted March 30 The Super Touring 1-4 rules have nothing in them that addresses powered brake cooling fans, and nothing that states, "If the rules don't say you can, then you can't." That means electric brake cooling fans are currently legal for ST4.
Tansar_Motorsports
Depending on ones interpretation, I could make an argument that brake fans are an "active" aerodynamic device, and therefore illegal. Whether or not they might have an aerodynamic benefit would depend on where you were pulling the air from.
National Staff Brett B. Posted April 1 National Staff Share Posted April 1 From where would you pull air to get an aerodynamic advantage?
