marshallmosty Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I'm taking out the stock dash out of my AI car and I'm going to utilize a 0.125" aluminum sheet cut for my specific Autometer guages. My delimma comes when I am trying to figure out how to mount that panel to my roll cage dash bar. I know I have seen some nice aluminum brackets, but cannot find the catalog right now. I thought it was CDOC, but their internet sight didn't yield anything. I'm also looking for some "low buck" solutions. I have heard of some people using hose clamps, but I'm just not sure how they attached that to the aluminum panel. Pictures speak 1000 words, so if any of you guys want to share your installation pictures, I would love to see your ideas. Thanks. Quote
trackboss Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Don't know how to post pictures here, but I've done a few dashes and some use roll bar clamps. I used the ones from longacre. They have short and long ones as well as ones with longer "legs" at the end to capture more of the panel. Super lightweight and easy to install if you know how to measure correctly. I would recommend .065 aluminum. If it is a flat sheet and pretty long you simply have one of the long edges bent to 90* for about 3/8" and that will stiffen up the panel. Once its mounted it will be solid. You can email me and I'll show you an example. Another tip is to get black anodized aluminum. That way you don't have to paint it to get rid of glare. Any sheetmetal shop can help you get this with the bend. [email protected] Quote
pederb Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 V, just click on the box that says "Img" add your link to the image and then click the same button again. The image must be on a webserver and not on your computer. Send me the image and I will host them for you if you have not way to host them online. Quote
marshallmosty Posted July 22, 2006 Author Posted July 22, 2006 V- Your mounts look to be the same LongAcre mounts that I have purchased. I should hopefully have everything back together in a few weeks and will take pictures when it is done. Quote
trackboss Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Yup, longacre. They now have an even larger selection of styles. I had to make those spacers because the hardware behind the oil pressure guage (mechanical) hit the roll cage tubing. That can easily be overcome by taking in to consideration where the tubing will be before you drill the holes and place your guages. I also installed longer screws than what is supplied. -V Quote
