Legends21 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I just purchased an early '85 944 that has been used for PCA DE only. It already has a Auto Power roll cage and Sparco race seats. The engine has good oil pressure and good compression. The only thing that bothers me is that a previous owner had discarded the Air Cleaner Cover. The air filter is racer taped to the air box. With this configuration, it seems that the engine is pulling in hot air from the engine compartment. Is it a common practice to discard the air cleaner cover? Should I be concerned? I was thinking I would find a used air cleaner cover to replace the missing item. If anyone has one for sale, please let me know. Thanks in advance. Dale Ritchie Quote
Spec-944#70 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 A week to late as I just tossed 2 of them cleaning up. You should try to find one as it'll pull cooler air from the left fender well. There is also a little directional device so you'll pull in air and not a ton of used tire rubber. The stock air filter cover actually works better than just a cone air filter stuck in the engine compartment. Dyno testing has shown that some of these "HOT" setups actually loose 1-2 HP. Congrats on the car!! Makesure the rod bearings and belts are good and get some seat time!! Quote
