Sterling Doc Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Anyone tried this? Seems like it may be a good alternative to a bolt in cage, and less money than a full custom cage. Quote
mweeks Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 You do understand it is only the front half of the cage, don't you? It is a way to convert the Race Roll Bar into a full cage. I recommend getting the full bolt-in cage and have it welded if you feel better about the welded cages. Attaching the cage to the A & B pillar is just as easy. Quote
Apex SPG.com Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Sterling, I have several customers who purchased this front cage kit. All have been happy with the kit. However I think it is important to note that I always explain to my customers that this kit is not as tight as a custom cage. It is a good value for those who already have a auto power roll bar. I will tell you after purchasing several bolt in style cages, I perfer the welded cages. Infact, although I sell a lot of autopower systems, I perfer (and am willing to spend considerably more) for a custom built cage. Give me a call and I can recommend a wonderful custom cage builder. If you decide you do want the autopower system, I have 3 (2 for customers and 1 for stock) currently in the build cue at autopower. Normally, autopower quotes three week delivery. These cages should ship next week. Give me a call if you want us to drop ship a unit to you. On a personal note, my wife is currently driving to Sterling to visit relatives. Will the weather cooperate for golf this weekend? Jim 800-375-3942 Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 The biggest difference between a kit cage (bolt in, or combo bolt/weld) is that it will not be as close to the body of the car. A custom cage can be made so that all th tubes are close to the inside of the body ineffect give you more space in side the car. I have a custom cage and when ever I jump into a car with bolt in it ALWAYS feel smaller inside. All the bars seem closer to me and it feels like I have less visibility. In my custom cage the bars tend to blend in better to the existing body work and it feels more open. Quote
spazegun2213 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 After buying a car with an autopower cage, I'll never recomend them unless you are a midget. I'm 6'2" and I "fit" in the car, but if i sit up perfectly straight, my helmet is in contact with the foam padding on the top door bar and i have a recaro SPG (with no bottom cussion) thats bolted to the floor Its a great cage, dont get me wrong, but the next car i buy/build will have a custom cage. I think its worth it to know you will fit. Quote
jesh Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Since I'm 6'5" I figured I would need a custom cage, thanks for verifying this. Now does anyone know of a custom cage builder in central Illinois? Quote

jesh Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 When you say have the seat fitted for me, what would be done and who would do that? Quote
