Utah944 Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I have decided to keep my 96 tahoe (Myrtle and yes I name all of my cars) as my two vehicle instead of buying a new one. Part of the decision was based upon adding air springs to make it level when towing. Does any one have any opinions or experience with air springs and advice. Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 What are you towing? Open or enclosed trailer? I think better than air springs you may want to use a load equalizing hitch. These are those bars that attach to front and they basicly transfer tongue load to the nose and help keep things level. If you have an open trailer then you can probably just place the car in the right spot and reduce tongue load a bit. Quote
uberklasse Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 agree with Joe...weight distributing hitch is the way to go. Quote
mfoley Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I towed my 20ft enclosed trailer with my '97 Expedition for 6 mos. It has the factory towing package that includes load levelers. When loaded with the trailer it would immediately pump up the rear air bags to level itself. It was adequate and safe but it would sway slightly when big trucks, motorhomes or busses passed me. I went to a 3/4 ton pickup for the longer wheelbase. Quote

I went to a 3/4 ton pickup for the longer wheelbase. I had the same rig and same white knuckles when passing semis. That was with a WD hitch. I upgraded to an Equal-i-zer brand hitch which is both WD and sway control. It's as easy or easier to use than a standard WD hitch but w/out fumbling w/ chains. No more white knuckles, sway is pretty much non-existant. That and upgrading to a premium pad like PFC or Hawk for the tow vehicle were the 2 best upgrades. Don't know about the Tahoe to comment...
