Utah944 Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I am a complete newbie with one enduro and 2 sprint races under my belt so take this for what it is worth- probably nothing. But... I bought a clunker on ebay for 1,400 bucks in LA-. Drove the trailer from Utah to LA to get it. Once home I changed the oil, brake pads, brake fluid and coolant to water and did my first DE event one week later. Now I do not recommend such a short timeline because I still remember my buddy/instructor telling as we entered the first turn " I guess this is when we find out if the brakes work." Not a good feeling that your first track experience is based on luck but it did add to the excitement. I then made a plan that got me 12 days in the car and made it log book ready for the MIller PCA race. I think that is pretty cool that I went from NEVER driving on a track AND no car to rookie in a machine with two wins to its credit in less than 7 months. During build time Aaron raced the car at thunderhill and won. If I can do it there is no reason anyone else can't be out there in 2007. My advise is once you get a car make a plan that allows you to get seat time and ready to car so you are ready together (or just by a ready made car). A car queen is not fun. I still have much work to do on the "Rat". This winter I will due the rod bearings and such but I al least have some races under my belt. The journals are cool and I di enjoy looking at them but I would rather be driving- just my thoughts and take them for what they are worth. Quote
Tim Comeau Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Todd, Your comments are from your own real world experience and they have value to others. The basic message is....."get your 944 on the track and refine it later!" Nobody is going to laugh at you. Don't expect to win right off the bat. Just get the damn car on the track and start having fun. It's that simple. Get the seat time. Quote
