bmrracing Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I relize this is a old subject and more than likely has been hashed and rehashed more than once. I have ran AIX for just one season and have wanted to increase tire and wheel size to my car for some time. I haven't manely because of cost due to the fact of the restrictions on type of tires as stated in the CCRs. AIX is required to run DOT rated tires. If we were able to run non DOT rated IE slicks such as the Hooser Grand AM tire I could Buy a Whole Set Scuffed from Grand AM teams for the cost of 1 DOT rated new Hooser or Cooper or Toyo. I Understand the need for a spec tire in AI but AIX is not speced to size or compound. The Idea as I understand was to keep costs down for racers but that does not hold water as I see it in AIX. We can run any engine horspower, Trans, Gear ratio, Suspention setup and modification to the car we can think up just about but we still have to run a expensive DOT tire. That does not make much sense to me. I understand that I am new to NASA racing in general, This was my first full season and I am willing to learn as much as possible. I would like to understand the reasoning behind the CCR on this subject and would like to know if there is a possibility the rule could be changed. Quote
