skrzastek Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I'm doing a HPDE this weekend in my Miata and I am running a set of used Toyo RA-1's (from a Spec Miata guy) that have about 70% of their life left. My question is, my hotel is about 20 miles from the track, would it hurt the tires to just keep them on the car and drive to the hotel and back instead of changing the tires several times during the weekend? Thanks Quote
National Staff Greg G. Posted October 17, 2006 National Staff Posted October 17, 2006 No, it won't hurt them. Toyos will be fine on the street for the drive to and from the track. Quote
Barfly Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I run the RA-1s on my daily commute. I get them full tread, drive them around until the next event (usually every 2-3 wks). I then rotate with another 6 rims/tires. The heat cycles won't matter that much as I only have about a 6 mile drive to work and back. Quote
Frank Corkran Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 you'd be fine even on Hoosiers imho Unless it's raining. Quote
Renntag Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 I used to mount a set of comp tires on my HPDE car in the spring when I first got started and would drive them all summer. TO and from the track, around town, etc. I had a daily driver so they didnt get driven daily, but I never noticed any difference. I would waste time mounting/dismounting to go back to the hotel.
