Roll cage Updates - Double Side Bars for Autopower cages

Recommended Posts

Posted

In the past couple of weeks, several people have asked about kits to update the side bars on older autopower cages. This week Autopower committed to designing a new kit which will update your single side bar to the new double bar specification. Autopower told me that they will have the new kit ready in 30 days. Once the kits are ready, I will post on this forum. Jim Bryant

As far as I can tell this two door bar rule applies to SCCA.

I have not seen anything from NASA about requiring 2 door bars in 2007.

I would expect that NASA will require 2 bars in the near future and of course rules or not two door bars are safer than just one.

Bryant:

Since NASA now requires the double side bars, have you heard any more about an update kit for the Autopower bolt-in cage?

Thanks.

Dale,

I have been at the Performance Racing Industry trade show in Orlando FL this past week. When I get back to my store on Monday, I will call Autopower and ask for an update. They have promised a kit to up-date the cages that they (Autopower) has already produced. Jim

I was just talking to Ken at IO-Port Racing last week. He mentioned that Autopower have both a full weld in kit and a kit to weld in a sleeved variation to match their bolt in kits.

Don't have much more than that

What exactly does "sidebars" entail? Are my X braces considered 2 bars(or 4 for that matter)

Autopower now has the update kit ready for the 944. As was already stated, you have the choice of two styles.

The first option is simply a length of tubing which will be fish mouthed (by you) and then welded (by you) to your existing cage. This kit will retail for $45. In an effort to support the group, my company ApexSPG.com will sell this kit at our cost of $35 plus your shipping.

The second option consists of two short lengths of tubing, one long length of tubing, two sleeves and finally the bolts and fasteners. This kit requires that the two short tubes be fish mouthed on one side (by you) and then welded to the cage (by you). You will then slide the sleeves onto the longer bar. Next slide the sleeves onto the short bar. Finally, drill the sleeves and attach the fasteners. This kit will retail for $60. Once again, ApexSPG.com will sell this kit for our cost of $46.17 plus shipping. If you want to order these kits go to our web site and click on autopower, then click on the kit you prefer and finally, submit an order. I will be adding these items to our site in an hour or so.

As our way of providing a Holiday present to the guys I race with, ApexSPG.com will discount any driver suit we have in stock 20% from retail price to this group. I generally have $100,000.00 of inventory in suits alone. This is holiday season only special only. To get this 20% off, you must speak to me (Jim Bryant) and me only. You can reach our store at 800-375-3942 and ask for Jim Bryant. I will also be offering this deal as a Holiday present to my friends in the Porsche Club as well. Happy Holidays guys. Jim Bryant

Just bumping this thread so that Chris will find it. I just ordered the sleeve-style kit myself. Thanks, ApexSPG!

It seems that the CCR only allows single door bars for cars log-booked before January 1st, 2007... I'm pretty sure I saw it say July 1st, 2007 in an earlier revision though, so I would have failed tech next month if Chris hadn't mentioned it to me.
