POC at Infineon over the weekend

dropped by Infineon sunday to watch the races.

I knew Jim Marks was going to be there because he left his car/trailer at Infineon from our NASA Norcal race three weekends ago.

Great racing! Story, photo album, race slideshow can be found on our website http://944spec.org under the news title "POC at Infineon".

Also had a chance to meet up with friends (future 944spec racers) doing HPDE to say Hi.

Wow! Thanks Ken. It was great to see you again.

The article and pics are awesome. Quick work too .

What another fantastic weekend. Jim and Pete are great guys to race with and hang out with too. The PRC put on an incredible event with a barbecue and band on Sat night. You'd think I'd know better than to mix beer, rum and scotch in the same evening. Ouch! The POC combined the red and orance run groups so we had 6 sessions each day. I "only" ran 5 each day.

My car was hooked up and the times came down with each session on Sat. I switched tires for Sun morning and ran a 1:55.8 in the second session. There were a lot of very fast cars on the track which made Sunday's race very exciting ... ask Jim for details.

I keep saying this but it's more true than ever. Next year is going to be fun! Everyone is faster and I finally feel like I'm racing.

Hi Mark,

It's always good to see you guys.

Congrats again on your race and laptimes.

I honestly didn't think a 944spec car can do 1:55-1:56 at Infineon like what you and Jim were running. I estimated a 1:58 limit on our cars, glad you guys proved me wrong .

I like to get you, Pete and Jim's take on running in the mix red/orange group.

Jerry gave the Norcal 944spec group a option to run either in group A or group E next year. Group A is our normal group with the spec miatas, honda challenge, GTI, etc., cars in the approx. power/weight range.

The problem with group A is that there are a lot of cars in the group. We had close to 60 cars in the race at Infineon.

Group E is the NASA PRC group, they had about 30 cars at the Oct 7-8 race at Infineon. Less cars in the group but they have some really fast cars and it's the power disparity that I'm worry about.

I'm leaning towards staying with group A but like to get your inputs.

In the POC we've run with the red group several times this year. I'm starting to get to know them and they are probably starting to get to know us, and I enjoy running with them. Infineon wasn't too bad because it isn't as fast as a track like Fontana. At Fontana the closing speeds are huge especially if they catch you on the banking. That said I've never had a problem. I've had many more problems in the orange group with cars running slower times but with more horsepower than our cars. It is frustrating to be out dragged down the straight and then follow that car around the infield lap after lap.

Hope this helps.

Holy Moly Schumacher! That's an amazing lap time Mark. Nice job.

The best part is that it was not just Mark Foley, but also Jim Marks that ran fast times. With junkyard head no less.

Thanks Tom.

Truth be told I ran a 1:57.5 on Sat and I was really happy. When Jim got his car going again late Sat I knew I had to go faster. I ran my fastest session when Dwain was following Jim and Jim was chasing me.

What a great weekend. I'm definately going back to Laguna and Infineon next year.

Hmmm.. two Schumachers and they're both fast? Now that's really unusual.
