rd7839 Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Where is the best place to mount the battery cutoff switch? My cage has a tab welded on that is now under the dash on the passenger side! What do the different sanctioning bodies say about the mounting spot? Also, is anybody able to post pictures of their window net mount, I just want to make sure I'm doing mine correctly? Thanks in advance Ron Quote
pixrken Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Hi Ron, I'll take some pictures and post tomorrow (sunday) when I drop by my warehouse to work on the car. If anyone else has pictures of the window net mount and kill switch handy please post. Quote
Tim Comeau Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Strong advice is to mount it on the driver's side at the cowling or in the hood. Pull loops are ok, but make the "action" part of it near the driver with a new, bright decal. You don't want the corner worker to have to run around the car to shut the car off while you're on fire. No corner worker is going to reach into a flaming car either. Quote

Tim has a good point, even though the kill switches on my car and Steve's is legal enough to get our logbooks signed off, it does require a corner worker to reach in. Steve's kill switch on the passenger side. Quote
pixrken Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Ron, I believe you had your cage done by TCDesign like ours, you should have tabs welded on the top bar for the window net. Quote
rd7839 Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Thanks for the great pictures! I have been thinking of mounting the kill switch on the hood on the drivers side, but was worried that because the cable would have to have enough slack to allow the hood to open, it might not be legal. Also I was going to attach the bottom bar of my net by chain held to my X brace with U clamps similar to muffler clamps. Cam anybody see a reason not to? By the way, those cages look alot like mine! TC Designs maybe? Quote
rd7839 Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Sorry, I missed the part where you said your cage was made by TC Design. Speed reading classes failed me again! Quote
Tim Comeau Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Ron, I'd make sure the net is idiot proof in it's release function. I put bright tape on the action mechanism to get attention to it. Make sure no metal parts can damage or cut the webbing in regular use or in a crash. Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 (edited) Here is a picture of my kill switch mouting. I mounted the switch near the battery where the cable runs are short and there is lots of space. Using a pull cable I mounted Kill wire so that It comes out the hood at the based of the windshield driver's side. On thing I like about driver's side is in a big incident any corner worked will go to the driver's side first. Plus it is closer for me to activate if needed. I have considered adding a second cable to run inside the car for me to pull while belted, but I have not gotten around to it. inthis picture you can see the white decal for the switch and the red pull tab. 944-Spec#94 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I have been thinking of mounting the kill switch on the hood on the drivers side.. Like this car? Not sure how it was done, but there is enough cable to mount it to the hood. One tip is to make sure the "flag" is parallel to the air flow. I have heard of rubber being kicked up and hitting the flag turing off the kill switch in a race. Not good. Quote
