JerryW Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Well -- for my second post to the board I don't have good news. My son Tim blew his engine at Laguna Seca on Thursday. No damage to the car but we're facing replacing the engine instead of building the spec car. So I've a couple of questions: 1) What's the ball park price for a used **known running** engine in CA. I'm probably going to touch base with Parts Heaven and EASY -- Any other ideas ? 2) What are cost effective things I should do with this new engine before it goes into the car, Oil pan baffle ? (source ?) Other things. We have an aditional core engine that was going to be rebuilt but it has an unknown history. Thanks for any replies and ideas (I beleive (I'm out of town in Phoenix right now) that he suffered a bearing failure due to previous oil/coolant mixing -- but dont know the details of where the real damage is --oil pan or block) Quote
pixrken Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Hi Jerry, I'm so sorry to hear what happened to Tim. EASY has various prices on the engines base on the model year and miledge when they were pulled. The last time I checked they average around $600, less for higher miledge, more for low miledge and later blocks, etc. If I have the motor out I would change out all bearing and gaskets, new piston rings, valve job. Parts are relatively inexpensive compared to the labor of dropping and reinstalling yet another motor. I believe Bill & Greg got their oil pan baffle kit from Lindsey racing http://www.lindseyracing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LR&Product_Code=LR-944-OPBK-1 I'll PM you the place for the crankshaft cross drilling if you want to go that route. Good luck! btw- I know it's bittersweet but congrats to Tim for winning the PCA zone 7 2006 autoX title for AX14 Quote
legoland951 Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I got a few running engines but I am on the other end of Ca.... Quote
JerryW Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Frank, When I get back into town I'll drop you a line. I'd rather get something I know the history of than just some junk yard pull. Thanks Jerry Quote
JerryW Posted November 12, 2006 Author Posted November 12, 2006 Well -- Just found a deal up here in Sacramento. Donor car for the Spec car and 2 spare engines that will do to get Tim back on the road in his car. Frank -- thanks but this means I don't have to do 700 miles for an engine change ! Spec Car should be ready when the season restarts. Quote
pixrken Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Hi Jerry, Got your PM and yes you're welcome to borrow my trailer to pick all these up. Quote
