I stumbled across one of these in someones yard the other day. What is it? Interesting look except that it appears to be something designed to compete with the Mustang II.

You need to ask Kurt Spitzner about the vehicle. It was one of his favorites.

At Rally TN, on one of the transits, you pass a house with a bunch of these in the front yard.

Is the car going to be ready for SB?

About 3000lbs, RWD, std 255 ci inline 6, optional 340 V8. One of less desirable AMX's but I kinda like it.

In this body, this is NOT the AMC that YOU want, Matt Smith! YOU want the same body style but as the AMC Eagle version : 4WD, using the Jeep drivetrain components!!! Several of these appeared in US rallies in the mid 80's with a fair degree of divisional level success. Never was the hottest thing due to the weight, but did OK due to the (then) rare AWD. Only Jeeps, Audi's, and one lone AWD Dodge Aspen were AWD at the time.

And we know where you can find one....! This is the one car that probably peaked in it's popularity in the state of WV.

Mark B.

The xr4ti will be ready for Sandblast. I can't wait. I have spent to much time this year in other peoples cars.

The spirit AMX has an interesting line reminiscent of a mkII escort or other fun cars of that era that I never had the priviledge to drive. I would be more likely to want to build an old capri. Mark, I can't wait to see the manta.

I owned an '84 AMX Eagle a few yrs back. Loved it even though it only had an 151ci 4 banger in it. Four wheel drive, tighter turn radius than a Jeep, almost no over hang in front ment lots of high speed hill climbs.(in my younger and braver days). Except for the weak model 30 front axle, they are decent 4-whl dr. cars.

It was a really heavy car, unstable at really high speeds, worse than our Colt.(which is actually a well handling car considering how short). Also very top heavy due to the 4-wheel drive ride height. But still a fun and very usable car.

Hey Brent,

Rear oversteer makes the Colts twitchy but responsive. You may be able to take a bit of that out if you like.

But I greatly appreciated it. Thanx again and you'll always be welcome to come race with me

and I will have mine running *properly* next season. You can count on it. Maybe I should just run NASA only lol, since the neon ran great at RWV, and awful at both RA events.

Atleast you had Lake Superior close by to help keep the engine cool. Wouldn't have worked so great at Rim or Laughlin.

There was not enough water in all of Lake Superior or snow in the UP to keep that engine cool.

Still I had a great time on some great roads. Chris is a great driver to work with.

Cherokee Trails still gets my vote for best roads. Wheres the commitment wihtout a 50 foot drop off beside the road.

Hey, atleast it was a great Grp 2 battle. Now if I can ever find a ride for a NASA event or the time to come down and help out at RWV...

Hey Mark, I like the oversteer in the rear. I just found a set of sway bars in the xtra parts garage. Front and rear, am missing one mounting brackett for the rear set. Am thinking of trying to mount them.

Just changed jobs and am trying to play catch up with the bills. So race car time and funds are having to wait

Hey Brent,

OK on the job; let's hope it comes around. If you need a bracket, describe it; I still have not crushed the parts Arrow. What diameter rear sway bar, and is there one in there now? What diameter is the front bar?

OK if you like the rear oversteer; sure made the cars twitchy in the straights. With the 4link we are working, we should be able to tune in/out some degree of rear oversteer; it'll be educational to see if it does.

Mark B.

Hey Matt and Ben,

Ben, you know you are welcome down here anytime. Looks like early/mid-August for RWV.

Matt, you really need to come to RWV to see these roads; I think you will be impressed if you like CT.

Mark B.

I was there this year (codriving in the white neon 2nd in M2). Definitely great roads. I loved the switch backs going on to and off of the ridges. I am looking forward to driving them next year.

I just need to find the time, summers are hard for me. I've got to make some of these events I hear so much about though, Cherokee Trails, RWV, Prescott.

I will measure the bars when get a chance. Missing one of the center body mounts. Will get some pics out to you. There isn't one on the car now.

Good luck on the Opel, sounds like it will be worth the effort.
