Kumho Victoracer V700 use in TT

2 questions:

1.) Is the Kumho Victoracer V700 considered a "treaded" competition tire for TT points purposes?

2.) I have seen some manufacturer warning on using these tires at full tread depth in the dry. Are they just covering their butt, or is this a legitimate concern? Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

Yes, they are considered a "treaded" type DOT. But, the '07 rules may be written differently when they come out at the end of the month. I'm not sure about the full tread deal with them.

Thanks for reply. I anxiously await the new rules as I tediously plan my winter build...

There is definately a differance between a Toyo R1/VictoracerV700 vs a Hoosier/Kumho710. Hopefully the rule doesn't change too much (if at all)

I have used fully treaded Victoracers and never had any problems. The Ecsta V700, from what I hear, will chunk very quickly if it's run at full-tread in the dry. Why they don't just shave them from the beginning is beyond me. I have had no problems running new Victoracers without shaving them.

PhoenixR34,

Thanks for the feedback. I won't worry so much about getting them shaved. I did notice that you used past tense in your reply. Is there now another treaded tire you use that you feel provides better grip?

I have used Victoracers for the last 5 years and love them. But the ones I got were shaved and had a few heat cycles on them. I used to get take offs from a fellow club racer who used my same size (he has a Kumho deal and got a set per SCCA National race) I think they are very nice combination of grip, wear, and price (even when I bought new). More grip than Toyos, less lifetime, less price. They do give up some grip and lower laptimes to the V710's, Hoosiers, and new Hankooks.

I don't think I would use them at full tread depth for long sessions or on hot days as there could be some blistering on the shoulder. I did run the Ecsta at full tread depth for a while and they got a little greasy toward the end of sessions. I never had any chunking with them, but I ran them when I first started racing and was not pushing as hard as I am now.
