subachad Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 PM's are for whussies.. (j/k) It looks like I'll be running the (new) wifes Mazdaspeed Protege next year and I think it would be VERY competative in TTF. My last event at Willow had me running 1.51 in my 100hp chevy aveo (dubbed the rental), I know for a fact I am MUCH quicker in the MSP, but I have not rented a timer with it yet. Dan Gardner that same day ran a 1.41 in his TTF car. My question is, are you going to the Willow Springs event in Feb and if so, will you ride with me and let me know what I need for the step from HPDE3 into TTF. I have been wanting to do timed events since I started running with NASA 2 years ago. I am comfortable with my talent and other cars on the track, I also have great on track awareness and a unique ability to drive anything with wheels past it's limits without consequence. Thanks, Chad Quote

Thanks, Chad Ok Chad, you are scaring me. "Past its limits without consequence"---I guarantee that you will find out what those consequences are someday if you drive "PAST" your vehicle's limits. The MSP might get caught up in the revision process, FYI. And, our process in SoCal is for you to first get approval from our Group 3 leader before consideration for advancement (Maddog Mike Peters). Then, once he thinks a driver is ready, I get one of my instructors that runs in TT to take the passenger seat to check the driver out for final approval for HPDE4. After a clean day in HPDE4, the driver is ready for TT if desired. Quote
subachad Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 OK, sounds good. I should have turned on the sarcasm button for that remark, I have been off track once at SMMP and almost on turn 5 at willow when a 240sx engine let go in front of me... just before the car began a long sideways slide I thought "hm... that smells like coolant" What changes are going to be made for the MSP classification? As of right now, I'm already at three points for a larger CAT section, a drilled airbox and ceramic brake pads. I'll be looking forward to the Feb Willow event and we'll see how it goes. Quote
kbrew8991 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 FYI a MSP won TTE this year at Nats Quote
subachad Posted November 15, 2006 Author Posted November 15, 2006 FYI a MSP won TTE this year at Nats Yeah I saw that. I must say I am a little worried about blowing it up as it seems the connecting rods have a tendency of breaking. Thing is, unless the rules change, I'll only be running wastegate pressure which is only 6psi. I know a lot of people are pushing well over 200hp with some basic mods and hopefully that's why they are breaking. With the current mods, I only expect it to be about 170ish to the wheels, basically a high flow cat section and an extra hole in the airbox are the only mods on the car. I'd like the opportunity to chase after the TTF Pulsar and hopefully give him a good run this year if finances and skill allow. Quote
Markus Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 ...TTF Pulsar... Don't make the poor guy's head explode, it's an NX2000. Quote
subachad Posted November 15, 2006 Author Posted November 15, 2006 ...TTF Pulsar... Don't make the poor guy's head explode, it's an NX2000. Oops, good point. My apologies, I do know there is a big difference between the two... one is newer. That and I wouldn't mind owning an NX2000 but a pulsar is better left at the pick a part. Quote

subachad Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 Greg, I hate to pummel you with questions, but I do have one regarding the tires. Is the +20 free thing based on the regular protege tires or the MSP which I believe has 215/45/17 stock. Right now the car has 225's on 18's which are regular street tires and don't even hook up all that well, but I'm wondering if it would be assesed an extra point because of it. I'm hoping since the car is almost fully stock with the exception of a larger cat section, the 10mm wider tires and extra hole in the airbox I will be able to run TTF by the end of the year and a full season the following. National Staff Greg G. Posted November 19, 2006 National Staff Posted November 19, 2006 You might be in TTU with Ken--but you need to wait until the rules come out to find out. Once again (for everybody)--some things are changing and nobody should be building cars based on the '06 rules for the '07 season. They will hopefully be out by 11-30. Quote

I doubt if I will be going that quick though. Quote
