StealthTT Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 I plan to use a Greddy Emanage Blue. It has both fuel and timing control. I have two questions pertaining to points. 1) If I am able to reprogram it at the track I am assessed 11 points. If not, I'm assessed 8. Can I have a tech official install tape over the com port and then check it at the end of the day to prove that I did not reprogram it during the event? I'm told you guys have some special tape for such cases. 2) The Emanage is able to adjust both timing and fuel. Therefore it is assessed 11 points versus the 3 assessed for no timing control. Can I show a tech official my "map" to prove that I am making no adjustment to timing. The com port could be sealed by tape as in question 1. While it may seem that I am being difficult by using this unit instead of the other options that will fit the rules better. The truth of the matter is the other units do not have enough granularity to perform safely in roadracing. They are fine for dragracing because you are just flooring the car. However in roadracing you are modulating the throttle constantly and therefore you are moving all over the map. It is not safe to have adjustment at only idle and wide open throttle like the SAFC uses. I am then forced into a unit that has timing control bundled into it. Lastly, I am entertaining the thought of running larger turbos next year. If the rumors are true and the rules are changed to require a dyno slip, weigh in, and reclassification, I am told that any hardware necessary to make that horsepower will not be assessed points. Hardwware such as fuel/timing control, injectors, water injection, air box, boost controller, exhaust, etc. That would then make my previous two questions moot. However others retaining the stock turbo(s) would probably be interested in the rulings. I just can't stop thinking about next year and I need to get a jump on my car work this winter so I don't fall behind like last year. It was no fun watching others have all the fun while I chased issues. Thanks for your time. Quote
National Staff Greg G. Posted November 17, 2006 National Staff Posted November 17, 2006 ECU rules are changing anyway. And, you are correct that with the larger turbos, you will get re-classed with all of your engine mods in place, so no points for any of them. Quote
