ssmith
I'm curious how GPS policing will work in lieu of AWD dyno testing. Please correct me where I'm wrong: The GPS devices that I know that can test HP numbers rely on a coasting technique to calculate driveline friction and aerodynamic drag in order to correct for those factors. The problem with using this technique is that you will then compute engine/crank HP, not wheel HP. Also this seems like it would be subject to tail or cross winds -- a little tail wind would make you go faster and thus seem like you have more power. Or if you draft.... So how will this work in practice? Is it just to catch gross cheaters?

National Staff Greg G. Posted December 14, 2006 National Staff Share Posted December 14, 2006 So how will this work in practice? Is it just to catch gross cheaters? Essentially, yes. As well, when we are running numerous GPS units on similar cars on the same track at the same time, we have comparison data available to look for anomolous cars.
