Source for fender flares

Hey Nasa,

Can anyone recommend a source for fender flairs? They don't necessarily need to be "universal" but it would be nice.

They are for a race car, naturally.

Thanks!

Peter

outside of a body kit, I have always just seen the stock fender flared.

You can hand stretch the sheet metal to flare the lip out.

you can make a vertical cut at the top of the wheel opening, spread the fender out and tack more sheet metal in for a larger stock appearing fender.

Then there is also IMSA flares that are really cool.

What are you trying to do to what car? ...If I may ask.

He doesn't have fender lips anymore...

I'm sure Pete will elaborate but it's a 85 Merkur, he trying to cover a Big Arse tire under a 'fender' looking thing. Think how would you make 335's look 'tucked' under a Fox Body.

No problem.....Been thinking about it for 26 years.

Bill Scott, owner of summit point, was an important part of this project.

Think this is worthy of GRM? I've been pondering the same question, but I always try to find a way to make, rather then buy. My fender flare recipe goes like this:

Ingredients;

-A sheet of Carbon fiber or fibeglass (size depending on your job)

-West Systems epoxy/resin (joy to work with)

-"Great Stuff" expanding foam

-Smooth backed packaging tape

-Wax.

The hell am I going to do with that? This:

The catch is, you will destroy your mould, and it will also be difficult (but not impossible) to get the traditional high-gloss Carbon Fiber look. The benifits are endless. You can use this method to creat alomost anything, as long as you think ahead to how you are going to separate everything. Want to incorperate a front lip into your flare? Its easy, you just have be an "artist" with this crap. It can be shaped with regular sand paper and a knife, and is fairly rigid when dry.

I get my carbon fibre from Ebay, it tends to be shop scrap, the last 3-4 feet of a roll that they cant use. Fiberglass can be bought by the square yard at Home Depot. West Systems stuff can be found at Marine supply shops.

Hey guys, thanks for the posts! Good to see 2 more XR guys on here!

DB, you'll never get 275's tucked in unless you want your XR to look like a rally car . I am reworkign all of my inner and outer fenders so that I can get my car low with 245's. It's a neat project. I'll share the results if they're worthy. And if not I'll hide!

Driver, who are you? Your idea is neat! Is that your blue XR in the pic?

Driver, who are you?

I am Batman!

I'm just a guy with a race car and empty pockets. I'm also a nerd with a dangerous knowledge of materials.

Not my Merkur, it was a google'pic. I've got a 91 XR7 5.0/TKO.
