sb
I've been considering removing my dust shields on my '05 stock STI brembos. I currently run PFC 01 or Pagid RS14 pads w/ Motul RBF600 fluid. Stock brake lines. Ti packing plates. Rotor temps post cool-down are often around 1,000F. I've only had a touch of fade once on a tight little road course, but I am concerned w/ all the heat going into the system. Removing the shields will help cool the rotors, but I am concerned about the effect of radiated heat on the components. Notably, possibly boiling the fluid in the lines, damage to the CV joint, etc. If I remove the dust shields, are these components at risk? Should I attempt to wrap heat shielding around them? ...if so, recommendations? thanks
BrandonT
Removing the dust shields will help a little, but without ducting you will still have a temp issue. I doubt if any components will be effected by doing so. If available, a directionally vaned rotor will work wonders over a radially vaned one. (The former has curved vanes to 'pump' air through the rotor)
Renntag
I agree with the first reply. I would highly recommend brake ducts. Even if it means losing the fog lamps. This will make a night and day difference.
