Voltage regulator failure and fix

Seems that most of the time, the voltage regulator part of the alternator is what fails. Charge light comes on in the gauges, then gets brighter and brighter. Revving the engine up made the warning light get dimmer momentarily. When it died completely (wasn't charging the battery) the battery ran the engine until it's slow death on the freeway, which wasn't anything less than very exciting.

The voltage reg is just one small part, attached with 2 screws, that comes out and goes in very easily to the rear of the alternator. It has 2 "brushes" that are spring loaded to make contact with the shaft of the alternator. These grind down eventually, like a mechanical pencil running out of lead. Almost all of the 944 alternators at AUTOBAHN PARTS.COM had this part robbed from them. It probably lasts 100,000 miles. I stuck a used one in, but I'd like to keep a new one spare anyway.

Speaking of AUTOBAHN PARTS, they had rows of A-arms, the older steel and newer aluminum ones. They had some phone dial wheels. They had the newer "tubular" headers, which I need, to drop some more weight.

Starters, too. These guys are supporting our series with big discounts on parts so call them and get your spares. 619.444.2290. One of the owners, Sean, just emailed me the other day and reported his new 944-spec car (# 86) was now running. Hope to see him racing soon.

Tim,

just request that they be a little more timely to parts enquiries, that would be helpful too. I was about to give up until that last call at about 3pm confirmed there was in fact some a-arms. Although I think they are worn already? It may be that the car is too low. I'm going to get Steve Alarcon to pic it up a little in the front.

Thanks.

Oh I no, I got exactly what I expected and super cheap too. It would think they wore out due to setup, not to part. Didn't mean to suggest otherwise, sorry.
