National Staff Jeremy C. Posted June 27, 2004 National Staff Share Posted June 27, 2004 When it comes to the battery box, can it be made of aluminum? I made one that should work very well. All the rules say is that it must be fully covered with a "marine" type case. I just want to get some clarification on that word! Also, I have seen a specific H1 car that had the battery inside a plastic bax, but had no cover on it and no one said anything! Obviously it was secured, but I thought it needed a lid? Thanks!!! Andrie
I assume the aluminum box is legal. My old car had one and the tech inspector is the one who made it for me.
Members Ryan F.
Any material is fine for the battery box. The marine type just means an enclosed unit. The box should indeed have a top on it as well.
Grumpy
Remember that aluminum conducts electricity. Be sure to protect your positive terminal should the battery get dislodged or the box crushed in an accident. With a rubber or plastic box you don't have this problem. civicrr
Grumpy makes a very good point. Per the CCR, you are required to have the terminal covered with a non conductive material.
