Tim Comeau
I've been talking with more than several new guys in the recent past. Ray D. ...........has secured an 85.5 944 Russ M. Harlan P........currently owns a 951. Jim R.............has secured an 83 944 Rick W. (not Rick White) Jim M............go kart driver presently. He'll be quick! He took the time to come by Willow and say hi, took some pics, asked questions. Smart guy. And look out, the guy escorting him, Mr. Turner, might end up as his prep guy and crew chief. Mr Turner has a couple C3 class wins at a little French track called Le Mans....and a win with a Busby 962 at some place called Daytona. Hmmmmmmm? This is really encouraging news. It means drivers think we're doing it right! All the above guys could afford to get into any class, but they're interested in the 944-spec class. They like what we're selling.............. Let's keep it on track and growing. You guys are the core.
Spec-944#70
I'm trying to get my hooks in a guy who wants to run with us but doesn't think he can aford it. I'm working him TC. I told him if he gets a car for a resonable price he can probably break even if he doesn't crash or melt down. He may go to the POS STS/DE in Sept in my car. I'm just like a pusher I give my victims the first hit for free. Then they'll come crawling back begging for more!!!

Packfill
Tim, Thanks for the "props," everyone in the spec-944 area was very cool. There is a strong probability that I will have a car by the end of the month. I won a Barber 3 day racing school from last Kart season and I am headed to that in August. That will be my first experience with Heel/Toe. I am also trying to get to the performance racing class at Willow in September. This should gain me a provisional license. very exciting. I actually have NO idea if I will be quick or not. A 175lb 30HP non suspended kart has got to be very different from a "real" race car... As far as Alan Turner, the guy is just a great old friend of mine. Very colorful past. Formula One mechanic and team manager for 10 years, including a long stent as Graham Hills team manager and chief mechanic, a couple of wins at Lemans, a first and third at Daytona. (That was actually Mazdas) etc... The bad news (for me) is I can't get him within 10 yards of a wrench and the ONLY info I get out of him is over a bunch of beers.... He is SO OVER racing..... So I go it alone.... anyway thanks again for the hospitality this weekend. PS: If anyone wants to see some wild racing, the KING TACO OPEN is this weekend at California Speedway. Imagine bump-drafting at 100+ for 30 minutes , sitting 1/2inch of the ground in a 175 lb open wheel go kart with 5" tires and no seatbelt.... It is one of the best races of the year........If I can break loose to practice Friday, I would be happy to throw an experience "real" car driver in the seat for a few laps!!! -JM
Tim Comeau
"Real race car?" Karts are real, believe me. Karters make quick sports car drivers, but the opposite isn't neccessarily true. You'll do just fine.
uberklasse
Didn't get much of a chance to talk to you this weekend when you came by because I was scrambling with a leaking right rear tire. I had the damn thing off 4 times! After sunday qualifying I came with almost 10lbs less than the other 3 tires. Hope you make it into the group, but I could lose my "rookie of the year" stripes....I think I am the only 1st year driver in the class.
