Using a Durometer on your tires

I do a lot of track days on Ebay tires. I get them in various states of wear, but I never know how many heat cycles they've run. 70% tread left could mean 1 heat cycle or it could mean 10. Would it be worthwhile to (attempt to) use a Durometer to estimate how many heat cycles the tires have?

Is tire hardness a good measure of heat cycles?

Is taking consistant tire hardness measurements with a Durometer reasonably easy?
