Reminder - Tethers expire on Head and Neck Restraints

With all of the head and neck restraints in use out there, we wanted to post a reminder that the manufacturers recommend replacing the tethers as follows:

R3 & Hybrid: Replace tethers every 3 years or sooner if involved in an impact or if the tethers show signs of wear.

HANS: Replace tethers every 2 years or sooner if involved in an impact or if the tethers show signs of fraying or chafing. The tethers on newer models of the Hans device now have a small tag showing the year of the tethers. If your hans is two or more years old, you should replace the tethers now or prior to your next track event.

Below is section 29.1.2 of the NASA CCR for your reference.

29.1.2 Installation and Replacement

Any systems used MUST be installed and used according to the manufacturers directions. The driver is ultimately responsible for the proper installation and use of these devices. It should be noted that “webbing based” systems should be replaced at least every three years or sooner if the manufacturer specifies such. Any device that shows signs of wear or abrasions should be sent back to the manufacturer for repair or should be replaced. “Homemade” repairs are not allowed.

If you have questions or need help with updating your head & neck restraint, feel free to contact us.

It should be noted that the word "Should" is not equal to the word "Shall".

One meant you ought to, one means you must.

The idiotic belt expiration is based on storing them outside. What pray-tell is this even more idiotic expiration based on? Cosmic rays, maybe?

This nonsense makes me roll my eyes so hard, my head actually hurts.

On edit, you are not being entirely accurate on the HANS requirements. Their manual is online, is says "tether replacement is recommended at least every two years"

Recommended does not equal Required.
