D Algozine
I picked up a used (never started) pro bullet DSS 306 short block. It has flat top pistons and needs a cam. I've got an RPM intake. I'm looking at the AFR heads. Based on my findings it appears the 165's are sufficient. Any reason to go to the 185's? Any reason to stay away from the 185's? Also, any cam recommendations for my set up. Thanks,
onralz
You'll only need the 185's if you go with more cube's. Otherwise the 165 will yield enough flow for good hp, while maintaining a good torque curve.
D Algozine
Great Info. I plan to run it as a 306. I've got a line on a set of the emissions legal AFR 165's. Any difference between the two? Will it matter if I simply didn't hook the EGR? Thanks again, Dave
turbolx
Emissions legal means they also have provisions in the exhaust ports for the air injection system. It's not a big deal at all to simply install a plug at the back of the head to eliminate the function of this feature. Cam choice from something "off the shelf" will typically start with FRPP E303, F303, or the trick flow stage I.
