jerseybrandon Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 I want to make the move into a car that is fun to drive 2-3 days per week and tour around in on the weekends, and that is also capable at the track. I have narrowed my choices to a 996 (non turbo, rear drive) or a C5. You can find nice examples of either one for under $20k, they are both fast, fun, and reliable (or so they seem from what I know of them at the track). Which would you choose and why? I am not a Porsche guru, and for this reason I feel like I am leaning toward the vette. The LS engines are strong and fairly simple to work on, parts are also easy to come by... but there is still something about a 996 Any thoughts? Brandon Quote
kbrew8991 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 C5 for serviceability, maintnenace, etc, etc Quote
cosm3os Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 No brainer. The C5. I'd go nowhere near a sub $20k 996, let alone as a track toy. You'll spend that in maintenance in a year! Quote
Driver Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 C5 for serviceability, maintnenace, etc, etc Exactly, very strong points when considering a car. . . . I'd still go with athe nicest 996 I could afford, though. Quote
sscguy Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 C5 times a billion. Among other things, it would roll the crap out of a non-Turbo 911. The other things have already been listed Quote
