ff2skip
QUESTION: Does your region require convertibles to run top down without regard to weather unless a hardtop is installed? Please answer only if you are sure of your region's enforced rule. Thanks, Skip * Mid-Atlantic requires tops be down. * Southeast - no requirement except Barber Motorsports Park * Midwest - no requirement Edited December 22, 2010 by Guest
whoahstu
I see many in the Great Lakes region running with the soft top up. Is there a reason to require that the top be down? I've often wondered.

I've often wondered. I believe the concern would be that of a driver or passenger being impaled by the top frame in the unfortunate case of a rollover. Our region also requires that all convertibles must have aftermarket roll protection. We know this to go beyond NASA's national guidelines. I/we have no doubt that Chris Cobetto and his team do everything in their power to host the safest possible events. I'm more interested, however, in the "top down" enforcement- more specifically, if any other regions have the same requirement.
Lucid Moments
The Southeast also requires top down running regardless of weather.
Members Jim P.
The Southeast also requires top down running regardless of weather. Actually the Southeast leaves the choice up to the occupants of the car - they can run top up or down*. There are pros and cons for either position. *except at Barber Motorsports Park - top down only

whoahstu
Are the top-down regions requiring that the lowered softop be secured? I think the important part is that the top is secure, regardless of its position.

I much preferred top up, plus from what I hear, times decrease because it has more aero advantages.
roger69
Required or not, nothing is more fun than running with your top down! Sound quality on your video becomes an issue, though....
