ddg
What tire pressures should I run in my new Nitto NT-1's?? 225/45-15's on a 2700lb. front wheel drive car car with me in it. I use to run RA-1s around 30psi cold
hustler
You're most likely running on 9's with that tire size, like me, so you want 31 hot. I usually start with 27 cold and drop them on a hot pit. This is based upon even temp across the tire though so your numbers may vary...but I doubt it.

BTW, I'm running 15"x 8" 6ul's they barely fit, 9's would be too big! I was lucky enough to have a buddy who works for a dealer mount them and fill them with nitrogen, but he cranked them up to 40psi!! So with nitrogen filled tires should I start at 31psi cold??? hustler
Call 949 racing then, you'll probably have a different target pressure...or buy a pyrometer and figure it out yourself. I think 949 might tell you to run a 205 on the 8, rather than a 225. I know from running different sizes on the same wheel, the slight stretch with the size I suggested makes a huge difference in feel and car behavior. I guess the best way to relate to this is; having used RA-1's in the past, how do the NT's compare pressure wise, do you find you run them higher than RA1's? In my experience, you could run the RA-1's really low, if the Nittos are the same, then I'll run the same pressures I ran on the RA-1's! Sterling Doc
Most reports are that they are similar. I'd start with the same pressures. BTW, the rec. rim width for the NT-01's are below. Note that a 205 is not recommended for an 8" rim. Your thought of 225's is spot on. 205/50ZR15: 5.5-(6.5)-7.5225/45ZR15: 7.0-(7.5)-8.

I ran 205 RA-1's on 8's previously and it drove wonderfully, and I just noticed that there's more "pull" on the 9-225 than the 8-205. I wonder why Nitto claims those measurements? Meat
I've fit (and run) 255 RA1's and NT01's on an 8" wheel. Here is my recommendation for a FWD car (keeping in mind my car is quite a bit heavier than yours): Front: 36 hot Rear: 40-42 hot
hustler
I always liked the logic of running a wheel width >= tread section width and ignoring bead width. It sure feels awesome on the track, there is an argument over which is faster...but the increase in effective camber and removing slack in the sidewall would make me consider the smaller tire over the larger one. I ran a 205 on a 7" wheel and ran them at 36psi I think, but I was also fairly uninformed and rough around the edges then so don't take that as the gospel. Meat
There aren't many (actually any) reasonably priced 17x8.5" wheels in my bolt pattern and offset. I have to run the fattest tire I can on 8" wide wheels. It's not all bad though since I end up saving a little bit in unsprung mass. I do think there is a limit where a tire will begin to muffin-top too much and you'll be losing contact patch area but I think I'm just on the favorable side of that limit.
