chrumck
Hello everybody. I was thinking about getting one of these in skin only pin-on version: I understand that this is covered by this rule C.1.4: Modification of the OEM air intake/box, air filter location, air piping to the turbo/ supercharger/intercooler/throttle body/carburetor, or hood/fascia/fender air inlet(s), outlets, or vents +1 But I'd like to make sure about two things before I spend any money: 1. Is it allowed to have a pin-on skin only version of a hood in TT? 2. Are there any specific rules for attaching such a hood like number of hood pins etc? Thanks! Philostang
As I understood it, that rule doesn't apply to hood modifications whose sole intent/function is to assist in cooling for the radiator. The rule is meant to apply to a hood modification that would channel cooler air into the air box/filter, as in a ram air scoop (or in the case of the intercooler, something that would likely lead to increased power potential). At any rate, as a fellow S197 Mustang driver I figured you were in for taking that point anyway, since you have to take it for a cold air intake (which is pretty much done across the board for these cars). Since you only pay for the point once, you're covered. I don't see any reason that the light-weight version you are interested in would cause concern in and of itself. The pin-on matter is likely just a safety call, but I'd be interested in hearing if there are an actual number required, etc. FWIW, that Tiger Racing hood is awesome! As ever, your best bet is to directly contact Greg for clarification on all these matters. Best, -j
chrumck
The rule specifically mentions hood vents so I'd be surprised if someone let me get away with such a hood with no points. And yes, you are right. This point has a good value for Mustangs so I'm going to use it anyway. As of the pin-on, after talking with Greg I'd most probably end up with a bolt-on one. Thanks! goddom
There is an aerodynamic advantage to venting air out of the hood, and it sounds like that is address in rule C1.4 Also you will be shedding weight, so you may have to take that into consideration as well. chrumck
Also you will be shedding weight, so you may have to take that into consideration as well. Not much with the fiberglass version. The stock Mustang hood is aluminum and is fairly light to start with.
TurboShortBus
There is an aerodynamic advantage to venting air out of the hood, and it sounds like that is address in rule C1.4 There is no C1.4; I think you are referring to C4: C. ENGINE:4) Modification of the OEM air intake/box, air filter location, air piping to the turbo/ supercharger/intercooler/throttle body/carburetor, or hood/fascia/fender air inlet(s), outlets, or vents +1 (air filter upgrade alone—0 pts.)
