clydesdale
Is there any conventional wisdom to building an enclosure for a dry sump oil tank when it is mounted in the driver's compartment? I recall seeing a WC car that had the oil tank enclosed in sheetmetal but I haven't seen anything specific in any rule sets that require it of a NASA or SCCA vehicle. I'm looking for both hard facts and opinions on this as I'm interested in putting in a dry sump system on my STI.
Billy Bass
I bought a 1999 corvette SCCA ITE car early this year and converted it to an ST2 car. It came with a stage 2 ARE dry sump with a big 10+ quart sump in the passenger seat compartment. It is fully enclosed in a steel box with a removable aluminum lid. The box has been integrated with and welded to the cage. It also has air ducting in/out for ventilation and cooling. The catch can/breather is also inside the box. I don't know what the rules say, but I would definitely enclose the tank in a steel box for fire safety reasons.
