douglass Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I have a 96 Mustang and I am looking into getting a Roll Cage for it. I use the car on the street, and for HPDE 3 and Possibly HPDE 4. I might race it but that is iffy right now. I would like a cage that would be ok to use if I were to race and that will be safe. I am currently interested in the Autopower bolt in cage but would like some feedback, and also some other recommendations too. Douglass Quote
Bryancohnracing Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 A few questions: What part of the country are you located in? What kind of street driving do you plan to use the car for? Every day use? Occasional sunny days? Somewhere in between? Do you plan on the other race related safety items or just a cage for now? The benefits of an Autopower cage: Inexpensive Comes painted black. You can do the install yourself. You can order it today and have it in your hands pretty fast. There are drawbacks of an Autopower cage: They don't fit as nicely as a custom built cage. It will interfere with some part of your interior and you will need to modify a door panel or whatever. A bolt in cage must be installed right, this is critical. Buy lots of 3/8 bits and change them often. If you plan to go W2W racing I highly recommend a custom built cage. You'll be happier in the long run, your car will be safer and what is the cost of your personal well being? Quote

I live in California and when I take the car to the track it will mostly be at Infineon and sometimes to thunderhill. I usually drive the car 2-3 days a week rain or shine. I have all the interior removed along with the sound den toner. I plan on replacing the seat when the roll cage is installed and some roll cage padding installed too. Quote
sydewaysix Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I'm in the bay area and there's a new fab shop that a buddy of mine just opened in Richmond. It's called Fabrication On Demand (F.O.D.) and he can basically fab whatever you want, ie: 4, 6, 8-pt etc... His prices are VERY good and a lot of mustang guys from a local forum are now getting cages/roll bars installed by him, myself being one of them. If you want, give him a call: Jonathan (510) 837-4856...tell him Ian sent you Quote
douglass Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 I read the rule book and it looks like a rear seat brace/support is required when a roll cage is installed. Is there any seats other than aluminum that will work with a roll cage and seat brace? Quote
KaiB Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I read the rule book and it looks like a rear seat brace/support is required when a roll cage is installed. Is there any seats other than aluminum that will work with a roll cage and seat brace? Re-read the rules concerning seats and seat back braces. Not to be mean here, but a glance at the rules will do you no good and could cost you money. Most new guys (and too many veterans) get fogged when they read the CCR. Simply take your time and if the paragraph yer reading refers to another section (i.e. like the one regarding seats and seat back braces), go there immediately and read it in the context of the original. For instance: Read about seat back braces, the rules may say something like "a brace is required iffn you don't have a seat which complies with the requirements of Sec. 1.2.14"...if then you go to that section you may find that certain seats will not require the installation of the brace. Thanks for the heads up I'll definitely do that. Quote
