Exhaust Rules

"12.6 Exhaust System

a) Replacement of stock Catalytic Converter system is permitted.

b) Replacement of OEM exhaust system is permitted and unrestricted providing it exists aft of the

rear sub-frame. NISMO Cat-back system is also permitted.

c) Stock exhaust heat shielding may be removed."

Does this mean we must run cats? but we can run straight pipes following the cats provided they exit at the rear of the car?

or can we remove the cats and run straight pipes?

The rules are clear: you may remove the cats and run straight pipes if you wish. But for those that don't want to modify their Zs that far, they may retain their cats or run the NISMO catback (or another brand) exhaust and still be within the rules.

The rules are clear:

But not crystal clear. They say you can replace the stock CC but they don't say with what.

I will make note of that in the next version of the rules!

Thanks for the catch.

The intent was to allow straight pipes to replace the cats if you wanted.

OK- another clarification about 12.6.b, "Replacement of OEM exhaust system is permitted and unrestricted..."

Does this mean headers are legal, or are the factory exhaust manifolds required?

Thanks!

Factory exhaust manifolds are required. That will be corrected in the next rules revision. If there's not a revision out by Nationals then a Tech Bulletin will be issued.
