Tire width vs. Weight

I was wondering what some people thought of getting an additional .8 of rubber to the ground at the sacrifice of adding 3 pounds?

Just to throw it out there, when I raced BMW, I found u sing 225 tires on 7" width rims is a handicap. Almost impossible to get the full tread working. 205 on 7" worked better. Best of all, 225 on 8" width wheel.

I had a similar experience with my CRX. I switched from a 225 on a 14x7 to a 205 and don't think I lost any time. FWIW
