z28cdoyle
I run a Camaro in HPDE and have been using Toyo RA1 tires for many years. I bought a set of new tires in late summer 2004 and more a few weeks ago. I noticed that the tread wear rating marked on the side wall is now 100. It used to be 40. I am also wearing the outside edge of these tires much more than in the past. I have had to add a lot more static camber to protect the outside edge of the tires. By the way, they are full tread depth. I know you guys probably run them shaved, but I never had any trouble with full tread depth until now. Is anyone else noticing the same issue? Did Toyo increase the hardness of the rubber? Did they soften the sidewall?
mwilson7
I never really noticed it until someone I sold some tires to brougt it up. I do know that there were two different tread depths you could buy and I assumed that was the difference in the tread wear rating. Have you tried calling Toyo? z28cdoyle
No I haven't called Toyo. I think I will though just to hear what they have to say. Chuck
Mystic_Cobra
It was my understanding that they changed the rating to meet (beat) some series rules that penalized you for having a treadwewar rating less than 100. The tire was not changed. But this is only what I was told.
swhiteh3
There was a lot of talk about this in the Spec Miata community, and the concurrence there was that the tire DID NOT change at all. Toyo simply retested and updated to a more accurate and appropriate wear spec.
