Roll Cage Removable Bar Connections

For bolt-in cages with removable bars, are there standard approved connection details between components of the cage? The only type that I've seen are the Autopower style, but I've had bad experiences with that style of connection should the bar ever be loaded in bending. Are connections from FIA 253 approved? Would an alternate connection designed by a PE be acceptable?
