Jeff F
I will be sumbitting a rule change request for this, but before I do I wanted to open it up to discussion. My proposal is in regards to section 8.1 of the AI Rules, Dynamometer Certification, and in particular this paragraph: The chassis dynamometer operator and the American Iron Chief Scrutineer will determine the chassis dynamometer testing procedures and how many test runs will be performed for any given car being tested in order to obtain accurate test data. For consistency within and across regions, I would like to see the following changes made: Specify SAE correction factor. As far as I know this is the standard in all regions. Might as well spell it out. Specify "5" smoothing factor. This will make for the most consistent results. Specify Dynojet software version to be used for processing. This could be on a regional basis, but there are subtle differences in the different software versions. Specify the number of pulls for official testing and how the official number is to be determined (average, maximum, middle of 3, etc.) Require that each car complete one non-measured pull before official testing starts. This is to warm fluids & tires, clean plugs, etc. Require that that actual dynojet file be provided (for both competitor supplied and offical runs) to series officials in additon to the printouts. This will allow the officials to confirm correction and smoothing factors (not always displayed on the printout) and have the raw data if needed. These files are very small (less than 15K) and are easily emailed.
