lonestarrpm
Saw two cars listed at COTA as Spec 986. Is this an official class? Didn’t see this in rule book. I run SPB with PCA and looking for an additional series. Was unable to attend most recent event, but I’m considering the fall. With weight mods I was calculating ST5. Looking at times for GTS2 and ST4 would be back marker. Thx, Mike

To be competitive, I believe all they have done is added some spacers and changed to either Hoosiers or BFG's. Steve Dunn added those things plus a splitter and wing and is a front runner. With those mods, he has an advantage in the sweeping corners and a well prepped E36 will have an advantage in the straights. Makes for some very fun racing. He is on this forum every so often and can provide more details.

SPBs slot into GTS2 which is a great class. i run a gts2 and a gts3 Boxster MIke. i also run SPB with PCA. The SPB with hoosiers and rear spacers is a middle to front of field car. You cannot be competitive on Toyos in this class. with aero it is a winner/ podium car but it's not easy as Garrett noted. The SPB will get pulled on the straights. High-horsepower tracks like COTA will be hard for Boxsters but will still be a blast mixing it up. we're pushing the boxster platform hard for GTS2 here in the Rocky Mtns. Feel free to ping me if you have anymore questions etc.. We've got a big contingent coming to COTA in September. If you've never been to a NASA nationals event it is a great event.
