Ignition systems reliability

Your directors are in the middle of a discussion around a request that came in to allow an upgrade to the notorious LT1 optispark ignition. The details are too numerous to post here, but in short; LT1 optispark distributors are particularly unreliable, expensive ($350-500), and time consuming to install (water pump and crank pulley need to come out, in some cars add fans, in some cars add radiator).

You can help: make sure your local CMC official is well versed in your particular platform's ignition system reliability, cost of maintenance, common failures etc.
