LOL!!! That's why you check to make sure it's secure before you leave the pits. I usually don't take mine off unless I have to so that I know it's locked in place.

Wow, very lucky!!

 

I was at Nationals at Mid Ohio in either 06 or 07 watching the CMC / Factory Five qualifying when Karen Salvaggio had her steering wheel come off going through the kink in her factory five car and went off left and smashed into the wall. The car was destroyed and she was lucky to be ok.

Very scary indeed!!

I don't take mine off for this very reason. I leave it on at all times unless the task I'm doing requires it to come off. I don't need to remove mine to get in and out (6'2" @ 250lbs) and I don't need to remove it to impress my friends and neighbors.

Leave it on and check it often.
