National Staff Aldrin V. Posted May 9, 2019 National Staff Share Posted May 9, 2019 Generally, yes passengers are allowed during HPDE events. Please check with your regional director or speak to any NASA official at the event to make sure.

It depends on what HPDE group and is definitely region dependent.
wdritchey_dc2
Rules were more open in the past. As of right now, 2019, Central and Great Lakes allow passengers in HPDE3 and 4. HPDE1 and 2 can ONLY have an instructor ride with them and of course HDPE1 is required to have an instructor with them. Non-NASA members will of course have to sign a waiver. If you're already a NASA member registered at that event, you've already signed away. Keep in mind these rules are the same when you ride with someone else too. Make sure they aren't HPDE3 or above. For your safety and their's. And if you aren't in HPDE3 yet, don't let anyone that isn't an instructor hop in your car. They may accept a driving coach and some other exception. When in doubt, ask your region's director.
