H1 Throttle body question

Nope. Bored throttle bodies aren't allowed.

16.3 Hybrid Engine Preparation

f) Throttle Bodies and Intake Manifolds are not considered part of the cylinder head and must be unmodified

Honda parts. Port matching is allowed but cannot be machined beyond 1 inch into the intake.

So if H1 guys run a stock (unmodified) Type R (62mm) throttle body, its ok. But if we use a B16a throttle body (stock bore is 60mm) and bore it to 62mm just like the Type R it's deemed illegal?

why is that?

The original rules, written by those who envisioned the series, had a couple of things to limit the horsepower potential of the engines. These things were done to help to keep cost in check. The TB & intake manifold are a couple of those things. The idea was to limit the amount of air that was able to enter the engine. Other examples of keeping costs in check include using the stock suspension mounting points & limiting shocks to single (not remote res.) units.

Note that @ the time, almost all swaps (hybrids) were being done with a B head. The reason that you could swap intake manifolds & TB is that Frankenstein swaps were doing it.

The rules committee has been asked to consider making aftermarket intake manifolds & bored TB's legal. It is something we will take into consideration. We do welcome suggestions. We will consider them. That doesn't mean that we will incorporate them. It means we will consider them.

IMHO, keeping cost in check is a good core value for this series. I wouldn't want to get to a point where the 'grassroots' racer was unable to race in the top HC class. I would much rather see close racing decided by the driver's skill than the limit(s) of their race budget.
